Job Overview:
A leading renewable energy company is seeking an experienced Vice President of Engineering to head their engineering team for utility-scale solar projects. Based in Bozeman, MT, this executive position is responsible for managing all technical aspects of solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both electrical and civil engineering, with the capability to stamp projects. This role ensures projects meet regulatory standards, achieve cost efficiency, and fosters innovation within the engineering team while supporting the company's growth and sustainability objectives.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of electrical and civil engineers, project managers, and design specialists, cultivating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance across electrical and civil engineering functions for utility-scale solar projects, ensuring designs comply with industry standards and regulations.
  • Project Stamping & Compliance: Utilize PE certification to stamp designs for electrical and civil components, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations.
  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee engineering activities throughout all project phases, including feasibility studies, design, procurement, and construction, ensuring deliverables meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to align engineering functions with long-term company goals and project pipelines.
  • Vendor & Partner Relations: Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, consultants, and contractors, optimizing project performance and cost outcomes.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring resource efficiency and cost control.
  • Risk & Safety Management: Identify potential risks in project designs and operations, implementing mitigation strategies to ensure safety and reliability.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education & Licensing: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or related field) with a PE certification and the ability to stamp projects.
  • Experience: 10+ years of leadership experience in renewable energy engineering, with expertise in utility-scale solar projects and both electrical and civil disciplines.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of solar PV system design, site grading, foundation needs, and energy modeling, with familiarity with relevant codes and standards.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams with a results-oriented approach.
  • Project Management: Proven success managing complex solar EPC projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements for utility-scale projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • EPC Experience: Previous experience in an EPC environment.
  • Hybrid Systems: Knowledge of energy storage systems and hybrid renewable projects.
  • Technical Tools: Proficiency in design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and project management software.
  • Industry Connections: Established network within the renewable energy sector, including key vendors and stakeholders.

Salary: $200,000 - $225,000 and Bonus eligible
