Flavorist
Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a Certified Flavor Chemist to lead the development and optimization of flavor systems across a diverse range of food and beverage applications. This individual will play a critical role in driving innovation, supporting customer projects, and collaborating cross-functionally to bring high-quality flavor solutions to market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and formulate new flavor profiles aligned with customer specifications, application requirements, and market trends
- Conduct sensory evaluation and analytical testing to assess flavor performance across applications
- Partner directly with customers and internal teams to execute and finalize development projects
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, QA, Regulatory, and Production to ensure successful commercialization
- Monitor industry trends, emerging ingredients, and technologies to drive innovation
- Maintain detailed documentation of formulations, trials, and sensory data
- Troubleshoot formulation and application challenges, including stability and performance issues
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal stakeholders and customers
- Partner with suppliers to evaluate and source new raw materials and flavor ingredients
- Ensure all formulations meet regulatory, safety, and labeling requirements
- Support training and development of junior flavorists and lab personnel
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- Certified member of the Society of Flavor Chemists
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Certified Flavorist (targeting 5-7+ years total experience)
- Strong background in flavor development, with demonstrated success in commercial applications
- Experience with reaction flavors and scale-up processes preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of flavor formulation, ingredient functionality, and regulatory labeling
- Experience with pilot plant and commercialization processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort learning new systems
- Experience with formulation or ERP systems (e.g., Sage X3 or similar) preferred

- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
Physical & Work Environment
- Combination of office, lab, and manufacturing floor exposure
- Regular sensory evaluation (taste/smell) required
- Ability to lift up to 20-30 lbs as needed
- Exposure to food production environments, including allergens and varying conditions
- On-site role (non-hybrid)
