As a Structural Engineer II, you will be working on the Structures Subsystem of our cutting edge LIFE habitat. You will be focused on performing detailed stress analysis of primary and secondary components, by classical hand analysis as well as Finite Element Methods (FEM) in order to support the structural design efforts of component from the conceptual phase to development and certification. You'll examine complex metallic, composite, and softgoods structures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle and influencing and improving new and existing designs.
Job Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically three (3) or more years of relevant experience; higher education may be considered in lieu of experience
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education
- Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as MSC Patran, Nastran, FEMAP, or ANSYS
- Ability to generate FEM/analytical models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies
- Ability to perform classical analysis using industry standard hand calculation methods
- Understanding of engineering principles and practices
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
Preferred:
- Experience with composite material analysis
- Experience with developing tools to expedite analyses
- Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes
- Experience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis utilizing tools such as NASGRO or AFGROW
- Experience performing composite and structural member sizing and optimization using Hypersizer, HyperX, or similar
- Able to develop macros and codes in order to perform pre-processing and post-processing activities
- Experience authoring substantiation reports
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required. Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances
Salary Range $80,000 to $110,000 DOE
