Job Description

The Project and Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting machinery quotations, developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes for solar panel/PV module production, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role also oversees projects, supports new product introductions, ensures compliance with industry standards, and leads the development of SOPs, SWIs, and PFMEAs for new production lines. In addition, the engineer provides coaching and training to team members.

Job Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain processes for stringing, lamination, framing, and final testing.
  • Support the quotation of machinery or equipment required for production.
  • Identify and implement kaizen projects to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Monitor yields, scrap, and OEE; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Manage projects, including developing timelines, budgets, and scopes of work.
  • Drive process improvements to reduce costs, improve throughput, and support operator training.
  • Collaborate with operations to achieve program deliverables.
  • Implement SPC, PFMEA, and control plans; ensure compliance with UL/IEC and ISO standards.
  • Support equipment installation, debugging, launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in meetings with plants to support and meet project deliverables.
  • Support equipment qualification, recipe optimization, and automation improvements.
  • Lead evaluations of new equipment through implementation.
  • Ensure compliance of equipment and systems with applicable standards and legislation.
  • Establish and manage equipment installation boards with OEMs and contractors.
  • Lead trial runs at multiple sites.
  • Coach, mentor, and train less experienced team members.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).
  • Create Value Stream Maps (VSMs) for production lines across sites.
  • Lead PFMEA development for new production lines.
Qualifications
 Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Familiarity with MES, CAD, and statistical tools.
  • Knowledge of U.S. design standards (NEC, NFPA 70, etc.) and safety system design.
  • Experience with robotics, control systems, Control Logix PLCs, and plant automation.
  • Strong technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Logical and methodical problem-solving abilities.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective teamwork with operators, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ownership mindset; able to drive projects to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives and HMIs.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Experience working with external machine builders and system integrators for design, build, and integration.
Education and Experience:
  • B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, or related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience in high-volume automated manufacturing; PV or electronics experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of SPC, DOE, Lean/Six Sigma, and structured problem solving.
  • PV module process experience (stringing, lamination, EL/flash testing) preferred.
  • Knowledge of UL 61730, IEC 61215, and ISO 9001 systems preferred.
  • Experience with automation, robotics, and new product introduction (NPI) launches preferred.
Additional Information
$90,000 - $105,000 annually
