As a Principal Systems Engineer in the Systems Engineering & Integration organization for Orbital Reef, you will be a leader who develops and implements Systems Engineering best practices, develops and implements processes, integrates digital engineering approaches with the team, and manages staff from the Enterprise level through Subsystems level. You are accountable for supporting program milestones planning and execution, and development of the Orbital Reef Enterprise to achieve on-orbit operations by 2027.
You will be using your skills and expertise to develop and implement a transformational approach to Systems Engineering processes and SE data architecture, model-based systems engineering, and technical data integration with simulation and test, in service of shifting Space Destinations from a document-based approach to a data-centric model-based approach to architecture, design, integration, test, and operations. You will develop modeling approaches using Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and Unified Architecture Framework (UAF). This role requires familiarity with a variety of SE tools, including resource provisioning.
Your section leadership will necessitate functional leadership and people skills, focused on career success and growth, training identification, regular feedback, yearly objectives development, and performance evaluation. You will also be responsible for staffing Programs and Product Lines from your section.
Job Requirements
Must-haves:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or other related discipline and typically 14 (fourteen) or more years of experience; higher education may substitute for relevant experience
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Advanced understanding of requirements management, interface management, system design and integration, risk management, verification and validation (V&V) principles, and other aspects of systems engineering management
- Successful implementation of both traditional and modern Systems Engineering principles
- Experience developing and implementing new processes
- Demonstrated success using model based system engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering approaches for long-term cost savings
- Experience in training systems engineers on new SE tools, processes, best practices, stakeholder identification
- Experience organizing, preparing for, and executing program milestone reviews, technical planning cycles, and major customer meetings
- Experience working with distributed teams, where personnel and teammates may be spread across multiple locations, organizations, and companies
Preferred:
- Experience in the aerospace industry, particularly in spacecraft and/or NASA human spaceflight programs, across all phases of the program development lifecycle
- Experience as a functional manager
- Proficiency with Business Process Modelling
- Demonstrated aptitude with Cameo, System Modelling Workbench, Unified Architecture Framework (UAF)
- Experience as a cost account manager (CAM)
- Experience with or certification in INCOSE standards
Salary range $180,000 to $255,000 DOE
