Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Principal Cloud Architect to design and scale enterprise-grade cloud applications in a highly regulated environment. You will lead technical architecture decisions, mentor engineering teams, and establish cloud infrastructure standards while ensuring HIPAA-compliant security measures. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep AWS expertise and the ability to balance innovation with operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement robust, scalable backend systems and APIs using AWS services
- Lead cloud architecture strategy aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework and enterprise best practices
- Build multi-tier, multi-region architectures with focus on high availability, disaster recovery, and fault tolerance
- Leverage AWS services including IoT, Lambda, EC2, RDS, S3, ECS/EKS, CloudFormation, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, WAF, VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, and API Gateway
- Collaborate with product managers, frontend developers, and cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and system architecture
- Optimize application performance, reliability, and cost through FinOps practices and continuous improvement
- Conduct architectural reviews and code reviews; mentor junior engineers
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement effective solutions
- Maintain working relationships with external customers, suppliers, and vendors
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and HITRUST requirements for healthcare data
Job Requirements
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of cloud development and architecture experience with strong AWS focus
- Deep expertise in AWS services: EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, ECS/EKS, CloudFormation, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, WAF, Transit Gateway, Route 53, KMS, Secrets Manager, Cost Explorer
- Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, JavaScript, or Node.js
- Expert-level knowledge of AWS Well-Architected Framework with proven implementation experience
- Strong understanding of HIPAA and HITRUST compliance requirements
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB)
- Expert in RESTful API design and microservices architecture
- Advanced DevOps experience with CI/CD pipeline design (Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions)
- Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, EKS)
- Infrastructure as Code expertise (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK)
- Experience with GitOps practices and automated deployment strategies
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, New Relic)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Agile/SDLC experience
Preferred:
- AWS certifications: Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional
