Principal Additive Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Long Beach, CA
Are you ready to shape the future of aerospace and defense through additive manufacturing innovation? We are seeking a Principal Additive Manufacturing Engineer – Applications to serve as a senior technical authority and trusted advisor for our most strategic aerospace and defense partners.
This is a customer-facing leadership role where you'll engage directly with primes, OEMs, and government agencies—driving strategy, influencing design and qualification decisions, and ensuring mission-critical AM solutions deliver measurable impact.
What You'll Do
Act as the technical lead and advisor for key aerospace and defense accounts.
Guide additive manufacturing strategy, adoption, and qualification for high-value customer programs.
Lead design reviews, technical workshops, and program strategy sessions with senior customer engineers.
Translate mission requirements into enterprise-level AM solutions balancing performance, risk, and cost.
Author technical proposals, white papers, and AM qualification plans aligned with DoD and NASA pathways.
Drive internal capability development and mentor engineers across the organization.
Ensure compliance with AS9100D, NADCAP, ITAR, and aerospace certification standards.
Job Requirements
What You Bring
10+ years of aerospace/defense AM or advanced manufacturing experience with a proven record of influencing design and qualification decisions.
Subject-matter expertise in metal additive manufacturing (LPBF/DMLS, DED, hybrid) with deep knowledge of Ti, Ni, Al, Cu alloys and post-processing.
Strong background in materials science, metallurgy, thermal-mechanical behavior, and structural performance of AM parts.
Proficiency with CAD (NX preferred), AM simulation, and FEA, with ability to communicate technical insights clearly to executives and engineers alike.
Demonstrated ability to engage confidently at the peer-to-peer level with senior customer engineers and government stakeholders.
Experience leading teams, mentoring engineers, and representing companies in senior technical forums.
Knowledge of AS9100D, NADCAP, MIL-SPEC, MMPDS and other aerospace quality standards.
Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering required; Master's or higher preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance.
