- Serve as the point of contact for community stakeholders, including local governments, residents, landowners, and organizations, throughout the development and operational phases.
- Identify and manage external consultants to support permitting, communications, and grassroots advocacy.
- Monitor local political and regulatory dynamics; recommend and implement proactive strategies to mitigate entitlement risk.
- Organize and participate in public meetings, open houses, educational sessions, and local events to build awareness and project support.
- Support internal teams in creating and managing stakeholder databases and contact logs (e.g., SmartSheet/SiteTracker CRM) to track communications, concerns, and support.
- Oversee and implement community benefit initiatives, including sponsorships, donations, and formal agreements tailored to host communities.
- Collaborate with communications, development, and operations teams to develop clear, locally relevant messaging and outreach materials.
- Track community sentiment, monitor opposition, and escalate issues as needed to maintain project viability and local trust.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in community engagement, permitting, public affairs, or stakeholder relations, preferably with energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience working specifically with battery energy storage systems (BESS) or closely related technologies is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with local and regional permitting processes and political landscapes relevant to energy development.
- Proven ability to manage external consultants and represent project interests with professionalism and credibility in community settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and convey complex information in accessible terms.
- Highly organized, with experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with SmartSheet and SiteTracker tools a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% to project locations.
