Job Overview:
A leading renewable energy company is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their expanding engineering team in Bozeman, MT. This role focuses on designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems for solar energy projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards and customer expectations.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead electrical design and engineering efforts for commercial and utility-scale solar projects.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and system layouts for solar power plants.
  • Design and specify key electrical components, including inverters, switchgear, transformers, and other critical equipment.
  • Oversee electrical system integration, including grid interconnection processes.
  • Conduct electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies.
  • Ensure all designs comply with local, national, and international electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Perform technical due diligence, design reviews, and risk assessments for new projects.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to ensure timely delivery of electrical equipment and materials.
  • Support installation, testing, and commissioning phases of solar projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in electrical system design and troubleshooting.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for efficient project execution.
  • Assist in project proposals by developing scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules for electrical engineering activities.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • At least 7 years of electrical engineering experience, with a minimum of 4 years in the solar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, IEEE).
  • Experience with solar energy systems and technologies, including inverters, batteries, and grid integration.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for designing and troubleshooting complex electrical systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in commissioning and troubleshooting electrical systems.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental standards.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in designing electrical systems for large-scale utility solar projects.
  • Knowledge of energy storage and microgrid integration.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.

Salary: $110,000 - $180,000
