Job Description

Full Time Construction Relations Manager on the Metro Southeast Gateway Line project in the Southeast Los Angeles County at the Project office.

This position serves as the positive link between Metro, the community, and various stakeholders to create trust and an enduring relationship for Metro; conducts the more complex staff work in connection with community outreach, preparation, and dissemination of informational materials, training, mitigation, and rapid response resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Support: Assist with Metro projects and programs throughout all phases, including planning, delivery, and operations.
  • Communication Strategy: Develop and implement community engagement programs to inform the public, elected officials, and stakeholders about Metro projects, programs, and mitigations.
  • Liaison Role: Serve as a key connection between Metro executives and local officials, councils, chambers of commerce, public agencies, and community advocacy groups.
  • Opportunity & Risk Management: Identify opportunities and risks related to Metro's initiatives and develop strategic approaches to maximize success and minimize challenges.
  • Strategic Planning: Establish goals, objectives, workplans, and budgets for assigned project areas.
  • Staff Management: Train, motivate, and oversee staff involved in outreach efforts, including consultant management and performance oversight.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and participate in community meetings, press conferences, and special events, ensuring strategic engagement.
  • Public Representation: Represent Metro at public events and meetings, acting as a spokesperson.
  • Incident Management: Research and resolve complex incidents, complaints, and stakeholder concerns in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Content Development: Oversee the creation of informational materials, including fact sheets, newsletters, e-blasts, website content, and presentations.
  • Project Management Support: Advise project teams on community impact considerations throughout different phases of development.
  • Internal Communication: Manage communication strategies within Metro leadership to ensure seamless implementation of new directives and programs.
  • Strategic Coordination: Align communication efforts across internal departments, including community relations, media, and marketing.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Public Policy or a related field preferred.
Experience:
  • Six years of relevant experience in public affairs or community relations, preferably within transportation or public works.
  • Three years at a supervisory level, managing public engagement and outreach efforts.
Certifications & Licenses:
  • Valid California Class C Driver License or equivalent mobility for job-related tasks.
Special Conditions:
  • Work is primarily in an office environment with significant computer use.
  • May require irregular hours, including weekends or holidays.
  • Local travel and occasional emergency response duties may be necessary.
Physical Requirements:
  • Desk-based tasks, including typing and phone use.
  • Standing and walking distances of 5 to 100 feet.
  • Clear spoken communication in English.

Salary Range: $110K - $135K DOE
