Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
Position Summary
We are hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve production for a well-established aerospace manufacturer in Carson, CA. This role is ideal for someone who understands aerospace manufacturing fundamentals but also brings progressive, modern ideas-process improvement, smarter work instructions, better tooling/fixtures, data-driven problem solving, and practical automation-while working within a traditional production environment focused on quality, safety, and compliance.
What You'll Do
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes for aerospace parts and assemblies (machining, assembly, sheet metal, or similar)
- Create and maintain routers/travelers, work instructions, process specs, and standard work
- Drive DFM/DFA collaboration with Engineering to improve manufacturability and reduce cost and cycle time
- Lead continuous improvement projects (Lean, 5S, mistake-proofing, flow improvements, scrap reduction)
- Support production floor troubleshooting: root cause, corrective action, and sustained fixes
- Develop tooling/fixtures and coordinate with tool design/machine shop as needed
- Support first article and production readiness: yields, capacity planning inputs, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with aerospace quality requirements and company procedures (AS9100 environment)
- Partner cross-functionally with Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and Engineering to execute changes smoothly
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of recent aerospace manufacturing experience (required)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and shop floor execution in a regulated environment
- Experience creating or improving work instructions, process flows, and production documentation
- Proven ability to identify problems, prioritize actions, and communicate clearly with production teams and leadership
- Hands-on, practical mindset-can work on the floor, observe, measure, and implement improvements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and comfort learning ERP/MRP systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma tools (Kaizen, value stream mapping, PFMEA, control plans, SPC)
- Experience with tooling/fixtures, time studies, and capacity/cycle-time optimization
- Experience with AS9100 documentation, change control, and audit support
- CAD familiarity (basic) for fixtures/layouts is a plus
