Job Description

Purpose and Scope:
 The Safety Supervisor is responsible for the presentation of safety training programs, including upon onboarding. They regularly visit and inspect sites for safety adherence, advise on hazard mitigation, and perform investigations as needed.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities:
 Site / Field Audits 
  • Ensures the Company and its job sites remain hazard and accident free by conducting periodic safety inspections. 
  • Prepares study and analysis of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Makes recommendations to resolve any deficiencies. 
  • Manages and monitors compliance to all current OSHA requirements that relate to the specific construction projects in question. 
  • Instructs on accident reporting, conducts investigations and applies behavioral-based safety techniques. 
  • Attends pre-bid conferences and highlights safety support and guidance procedures.
  • Records and compiles data, updates logs, monitors equipment and schedules maintenance. 
  • Ensures all required safety records, such as OSHA 300 logs, are accurately completed and maintained in accordance with the law.
  •  Manages and oversees all Safety Reports as required. 
  • Accompanies OSHA representatives on site walks for observation and recording. 
  • Conducts inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment identifying and correcting potential hazards, and ensuring regulatory compliance. 
  • Ensures compliance with state & federal law as described in 29 CFR. 
  • Manages safety protocols within daily operation of construction projects. Risk Management 
  • Trains employees in proper procedures and conducts periodic emergency evacuation drills to ensure planning is effective in practice, such as employee knowledge of placement of all fire extinguishers and first aid kits. 
  • Provides recommendations and assistance, along with the Safety Team, to Project Managers, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation and safe material or substance utilization. 
  • Ensures compliance with corporate worker's compensation program including working with internal personnel and third-party administrators/legal counsel, to effectively investigate and resolve claims in an expeditious and cost-effective manner. 
  • Develops and leads safety meetings and curriculum, trains and develops safety staff for increased jobsite safety.  
  • Anticipates, identifies, and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices, and responds and aids in all emergency situations. 
  • Performs and oversees investigation of accidents, injuries and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies. Cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations. Provides recommendations for remedial action.
  • Remains current on federal, state, county and local safety regulations. Keeps management advised of new or revised regulations and their projected impact. 
  • Analyzes accident information, identifies trends and key problem areas, and communicates to site leadership. 
  • Participates in development and implementation of hazard control methods and safety procedures. 
  • Partners with Terminal Managers, Regional Managers, Engineering, and Safety Committee to develop action plans to reduce workplace injuries and incidents, and promote employee engagement in health and safety programs. 
  • Partners with Management, as well as Operations and HR, to ensure all new hires receive safety orientation, and manage annual training requirements for existing employees. 
  • Partners with Safety team to develop, implement, and maintain driver safety programs for contract drivers. 
  • Partners with other Regional Safety Managers and site Safety Supervisors to leverage safety and environmental best practices into overall standards. 
  • Implements and teaches Safety Training Programs and enforces safety procedures for active company employees. 
  • Confirms the availability and completion of New Hire Safety Orientation by new employees. Compliance 
  • Supports the Safety Team regarding all Subcontractor job specific Safety Programs. 
  • Reviews new Subcontractor pre-qualification documentation to ensure they have an acceptable safety record and communicate with the department manager on their acceptance or rejection. 
  • Plans and implements risk management, safety policies and procedures in compliance with all federal, state, county and local rules and regulations, including MSDS requirements, for both field and office operations, to maximize a safe working environment. 
  • Monitors and adheres to the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) requirements and procedures.  
  • Implements and adheres to all aspects of the company's Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (Occupational Safety/Health Program) for sites in their region. 
  • Manages hazardous materials control program. Works with 3rd party services to review samples and test for hazardous materials prior to the start of demolition on all projects. Secures good faith reports prior to the start of work. 
  • Manages and submits all relevant Safety HR, Compliance and Insurance documentation. 
  • Identifies innovative ways to grow and maintain a strong safety culture and revamp employee safety training programs as necessary. 
  • All other duties as required.
Education/ Training:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field, preferred. 
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office Suite. 
  • OSHA 30 Certified. 
  • Familiar with or learn Sitetracker. 
  • Knowledgeable of local, state and federal fire and safety regulations. 
  • Knowledgeable of legal and regulatory requirements governing worker health and safety; perform physical and ergonomic assessments with corresponding case management skills. 
  • Familiar with or learn Zoom Meeting or other web-based platform for online training. 
  • Certified as a Safety Professional (CSP, ASP, or GSP), preferred. 
  • Certified Safety Trainer (STS, CSP or CSM, and OSHA 500) plus First Aid/CPR, preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge of the following Safety areas: 
    • DOT regulations 
    • OSHA (OSHA 500) regulations 
    • RCRA regulations 
  • Clean and current Driver's license (MVR check) in the applying State, helpful.
Experience:
  •  4+ Years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety or related field within a construction environment, preferred.
  • Safety Experience. 
  • Claims/OSD Experience. 
  • Experience supervising ground-up and large TI construction projects.
