Job Description
Materials Manager – Fort Mill, SC
We're seeking a transformational Materials Manager to lead our supply chain operations at our Fort Mill, South Carolina facility. Reporting directly to the Global Supply Chain Director, this leader will champion world-class practices in materials management while nurturing a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
This role is ideal for a people-first leader who thrives in data-driven environments, builds high-performing teams, and embraces cross-functional alignment across sales, logistics, and production.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing materials team through coaching, performance feedback, and clear career development pathways.
- Cultivate a culture of accountability, agility, and continuous improvement rooted in lean supply chain principles.
- Run highly effective daily, weekly, and monthly planning meetings with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure clarity, alignment, and ownership.
- Foster a learning organization by sharing best practices, implementing SOPs, and reinforcing structured problem-solving methodologies.
Strategic Inventory Optimization
- Design and execute inventory strategies that maintain 98%+ service levels while minimizing excess and obsolete materials.
- Utilize forecasting techniques (e.g., ABC analysis, safety stock modeling, AI-driven demand tools) to inform purchasing and production alignment.
- Manage inventory across high-SKU environments and sensitive components, ensuring FIFO and JIT practices are applied consistently.
- Leverage ERP systems for real-time inventory visibility, analytics, and compliance tracking.
Demand Planning & Integrated Business Planning (IBP/SIOP)
- Partner with Sales and Finance to align forecasts with operational capacity and strategic account priorities.
- Lead the execution of SIOP processes, including effective meeting cadence, stakeholder accountability, and alignment of demand, supply, and financial plans.
- Drive KPI development and visibility across key metrics like forecast accuracy, lead times, inventory turns, and on-time delivery.
Supplier Relationship & Risk Management
- Collaborate with procurement and compliance to negotiate flexible, sustainable supplier agreements.
- Build and maintain a resilient global supplier base, qualifying backup vendors and supporting continuity plans for geopolitical or supply chain disruptions.
- Align sourcing strategies with sustainability goals and ethical sourcing standards.
End-to-End Materials Flow Optimization
- Implement PFEP (Plan for Every Part) methodologies and Lean principles to streamline inbound, internal, and outbound material flows.
- Optimize warehouse layouts and storage strategies for SKU velocity, inventory accuracy, and cost-effective utilization.
- Drive adoption of digital tools (RFID, automation, real-time dashboards) to improve throughput and reduce manual handling.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee cycle counts and annual inventory audits, achieving and sustaining >98% accuracy.
- Lead structured root cause analysis for discrepancies and implement robust corrective actions.
- Champion sustainability initiatives such as recyclable packaging, waste reduction, and carbon tracking.
Job Requirements
Preferred Background & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or Engineering (required); MBA or Master's preferred.
- 7–10 years of progressive materials/inventory management experience, including leadership in electronics, automotive, or semiconductor environments.
- Demonstrated success in coaching teams, running cross-functional planning meetings, and leading change.
- Deep ERP experience (SAP MM/EWM, Oracle SCM), with fluency in reporting tools like Power BI and Tableau.
- Familiar with Lean Six Sigma, PFEP, SIOP, BOM management, and compliance standards like IATF 16949 or IPC-610.
- Certified in APICS CPIM or CSCP preferred.
- Proven ability to build systems, develop talent, and drive results in dynamic supply chain environments.
- Passion for data-informed decision-making, structured problem-solving, and global collaboration.
$120,000 - $140,000
