Job Description
Laboratory Technician - Full Time (DOE)
📍 Desert Center, CA
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on mining laboratory experience, strong technical knowledge of froth flotation, mineral assays, and aggregate testing, and the ability to handle heavy samples and operate specialized equipment. This is not a biotech or pharmaceutical lab - we're looking for someone experienced in mineral processing, mining, or aggregate testing who's ready to make an immediate impact in a dynamic industrial environment.
We're seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join a fast-growing operation in Desert Center, CA, supporting our iron ore and precious metals division. In this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of materials that drive production across multiple sites.
Your work will directly influence decision-making on ore recovery, mineral efficiency, and operational output - making this a highly visible, high-impact opportunity for someone passionate about applied science in the mining and aggregate industries.
What You'll Do
* Sample Collection & Preparation
* Collect ore, concentrate, and tailings samples from mine and plant sites
* Crush, split, grind, and sieve materials for accurate analysis
* Safely handle and transport large/heavy samples (up to 60 lbs)
* Material Testing & Analysis
* Perform ore grade analysis for iron, gold, and rare earth elements
* Conduct froth flotation and recovery testing to evaluate process performance
* Execute aggregate gradation and physical property testing
* Operate and maintain lab instruments such as spectrometers, flotation cells, scales, and analyzers
* Data Management & Reporting
* Record, analyze, and report test results with precision
* Generate daily/weekly lab reports for operations and management
* Identify anomalies or process inefficiencies and collaborate on improvements
* Process Support & Collaboration
* Partner with metallurgists, mineralogists, and operators to align data with production goals
* Offer technical insights to improve recovery rates and ore quality
* Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to mineral recovery and tailings
* Safety & Compliance
* Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant lab environment
* Follow MSHA, OSHA, and environmental safety protocols
* Actively engage in safety meetings and training

Job Requirements
What We're Looking For
* Associate's degree in Geology, Mining Technology, Metallurgy, or related field
* (Bachelor's preferred; equivalent experience considered)
* 2+ years of laboratory experience in mining, aggregate, or mineral recovery industries
* Strong understanding of sampling, ore testing, and flotation methods
* Skilled in operating and maintaining mining lab equipment
* Technically proficient with reporting and data accuracy
* Physically able to lift and move heavy samples regularly
* Bonus Points For:
* Experience with froth flotation, tailings, or iron ore beneficiation
* Background in precious metals or rare earth element testing
* MSHA Part 48 certification (or willingness to obtain)
The Details
* Full-time, non-exempt position
* Pay: $30.00 - $40.00/hour DOE
* Work setting: industrial/mining lab with dust, vibration, and heat exposure (PPE provided)
